日本の開国にとても重要な町でした。It was a very important town in the history.

ペリーが上陸したところなんです。Because Perry landed here.

このころ、日本では鎖国を続けるべきか、開国すべきか、The Last Samurai の映画のようになっていきました。Japan faced the crucial issue whether it should open the country or not.

そして、侍の時代が終わりました。And finally, the era of samurai ended.
